Due to circumstances beyond the control of Lifescape Community Services, it will no longer be able to provide the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program to the Rockford and Belvidere communities, effective January 1, 2010. The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) and Lifescape tried for many months to find an alternative method with which to fund the program. However, none was found.
Lifescape CEO Carol Green says “Some additional requirements for RSVP programs funded by CNCS conflict with other programming efforts, and as a result, the leadership of Lifescape has agreed for (CNCS) to seek out another agency to provide RSVP services.”
Green says Lifescape is committed to aiding in the transition of RSVP to another local agency with as little disruption in service as possible and to help make sure grant dollars will not leave the community.
The RSVP Program has been serving the Winnebago and Boone County area for 30 years through Lifescape Community Services and is the most successful program of its kind in the state of Illinois. More than 1200 local volunteers provide over 200,000 hours of volunteer time at 145 local agencies each year. Lifescape has been, and continues to be, proud of what RSVP has done to save these agencies millions of dollars thanks to the work of dedicated local volunteers.
Information about the Corporation for National and Community Service can be found at www.nationalservice.gov.
Lifescape Community Services will continue to serve the senior population of Winnebago, Boone, Ogle and Lee Counties through Meals on Wheels home-delivered meals and congregate dining sites, Brightside Adult Day Service and Senior Assist programs.
