Earl Hickey

Earl Hickey was a part time recipient of Meals on Wheels so our drivers didn't have daily contact with him. So when our volunteer tried to deliver his meal, but he didn't answer his door, it was simply left for him with a note to call Lifescape. Due to his hearing difficulties, Earl sometimes does not hear the doorbell or telephone and, as a result, misses meals.

The following morning when we hadn't heard from Earl, another driver was sent to check on him. That driver noticed newspapers around the front door and knew there was a problem. The driver notified Lifescape's home delivered meal staff, who then notified the police. After making a welfare check, the police called back to report that Earl was coherent and talking with the officers. They said Earl had fallen in his bedroom the day before and was unable to get to the door or telephone.

Earl was taken to SwedishAmerican Hospital for treatment and is now in a rehabilitation center recuperating.
