Alice Baker

One of the benefits of Meals on Wheels is the daily welfare and safety check. That came into play one day in February when an Ogle County Lifescape driver went to the home of Alice Baker.

When the driver arrived at Alice's home, he knocked on the door, and could see her, but she was unresponsive. He let himself into the house and began talking with Alice and touching her hand. The driver notified our home delivered meals staff who then contacted family members to let them know of Alice's condition. The driver, meanwhile, called 911. When the family arrived, medical personnel learned that this had happened to Alice before, but this time, she lost all mobility as well.

Alice has since been moved into a nursing home.
